Karen Janes
Karen Janes has been a professional accompanist and coach in the Seattle area since 1980, working with the Seattle Opera Preview Program, several vocal studios, the Village Theater, and many singers and instrumentalists throughout the area. he regularly accompanies over 50 concerts a year, and is sought after as an accompanist for auditions as well, from opera and college auditions to the annual state Solo and Ensemble Contest in Ellsburg, Washington, where she accompanies some the area's finest young musicians.
Ms. Janes also performs as a solo pianist and does harpsichord and continuo work with area orchestras. A graduate of the University of North Texas College of Music, where she studied Accompanying with Harold Heilberg, Ms. Janes has also studies with John Wustman, accompanist to Lucianno Pavarotti, and Gwendolyn Koldofsky, coach and accompanist to Lotte Lehmann and Marilyn Horne. She has a working familiarity with Italian, French, German, and Spanish, and cites famed accompanist Gerald Moore as an inspiration for her profession.
In addition to her work as an accompanist, Ms. Janes is also principal double bassist with the Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra. A published composer in collaboration with singer/composer Janet Stimson, her works have been performed at Midsummer Musical Retreat, the local Metropolitan Opera Council, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) National Convention.
